Implementation of Next Generation Firewall (NGF) & Network Infrastructure Revamp

With users typically assigned by DHCP, restricting user access via IP in firewall was not feasible. Netsis introduced Palo Alto Network (PAN) firewall, also known as Next Generation Firewall, to this Client who supporting more than 200 users locally. PAN is able to specify user accounts instead of IP in the firewall rules, allowing our Client to have better control and visibility on their users’ behaviour over their network. In addition, applications were not blocked via ports but via application signatures which is highly intelligent in the event of changed of ports. Their IT administrator is able to block MSN file transfer at the same time allowing MSN chat for business purpose. With PAN in place, our Client is able to manage the network environment, having precise control over what their users can access.

Firewall security was well-guarded by Celestix, providing the network environment with Threat Management Gateway function and Unified Access Gateway. These 2 performs as Secured Web Gateway and SSL/VPN respectively. In anti-spam solution, Ironport was deployed by blocking spam and viruses before reaching the newly migrated Windows 2008 server and Exchange 2010 from Windows 2003 and Exchange 2003. Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, NAP, IIS, FTP, SQL, DFS and WSS were all part of the migration project, providing our Client an end-to-end solution.

Device & Data Encryption

Netsis successfully implemented Sophos Safeguard Device & Data Encryption, our client with more than 400 users in their network environment. A bulk of licenses, to the mentioned product, were purchased and used mainly for Head of Departments as each of their laptop and portable devices holds critical and sensitive data. In event of losses to these mentioned hardware, information remained encrypted and fully secured. Prior to deployment, Sophos Safeguard was initially tested with dozen of pilot users and subsequently rolled out to rest of their users. With Safeguard in place, customers’ data is well protected against any accidental losses when users are on the move.
